Connected Voice will host this month’s NHIP Academy Fellows  Forum on Cultural Competency and EDI in Research. The event will take place on Wednesday 22nd May 2024, 1pm-4pm.

 

The Fellows Forum is a peer-to-peer support network for health and care researchers and offers a programme of events to share best practice and network.

 

This event will be split into four parts and will cover the following:

 

Part one:

Understanding the terms:

  • Equality vs equity
  • Race vs ethnicity
  • Asylum seekers vs refugees

 

Part two:

EDI in economics – Index of Multiple Deprivation in Tyne and Wear,

EDI in culture – ethnic minorities, students, LGBT+, religion

EDI in politics – Asylum seekers and refugees

 

Part three:

Case student

  1. covid study
  2. how to approach death and dying

Specific focus for each case study: challenges for healthcare access, research participation, best practice guide

 

Part four:

Networking and reflection, future consideration (resources for writing EDI policy, free cultural competency training).
