We are pleased to welcome Kay Carruthers to deliver our next Advanced Therapies Satellite seminar. Kay is the Head of Operations for Newcastle Advanced Therapies, a comprehensive support service which provides GMP processing and manufacture of cellular products and advanced therapies for research and clinical use. She oversees the activity and staff across two sites at the Centre for Life and RVI which includes laboratory support under the HTA, JACIE, QAAPs and the MHRA across the University and Trust. Kay is a JACIE inspector and also leads the Pancreatic Islet Transplantation service.

Kay specialises in stem cell processing having previously developed her career as a biomedical scientist in blood sciences and then spending over 10 years leading a growing stem cell lab providing essential support for adult and paediatric BMT. Kay has expertise in routine cell processing as well as the implementation, development and delivery of specialist cell depletion and graft engineering protocols to minimise transplant complications and target the underlying disease in paediatric patients. She is currently undertaking a PhD in HSCT for inborn errors of immunity.

The seminar will explore the growing portfolio of stem cell based therapies in Newcastle; how they are developing beyond the routine approaches and how Newcastle’s expertise is diverging into GMO and Tissue Therapies.
