New Chief Operating Officer for NHIP
Friday June 10, 2022
We welcome Hannah Powell as the new Chief Operating Officer for Newcastle Health Innovation Partners.
Hannah joins us from the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust where she has spent almost ten years as Directorate Manager, most recently for Clinical Research. Here, she has played an instrumental role in developing the research delivery infrastructure and strategy for the coming years, whilst simultaneously enhancing research performance, culture and understanding.
Professor David Burn, Pro-Vice Chancellor Faculty of Medical Sciences, Newcastle University and Director of NHIP, said:
“I am thrilled to have Hannah taking the reins of NHIP as Chief Operating Officer. Her knowledge of our local landscape will be invaluable in achieving the goals and ambitions of our partnership.”
Prior to her time at Newcastle Hospitals, Hannah held senior leadership roles in several NHS organisations in the North East region. She also brings experience of the charitable sector and local government in the North West.
On taking up this new appointment Hannah said:
“I am delighted to be appointed as Chief Operating Officer for our Academic Health Science Centre, the evolution of which I have enjoyed being a small part of over the last two years.
“The collaborative efforts and achievements that I have witnessed fill me with immense pride and enthusiasm to strengthen and scale up our approach – to deliver against our strategic priorities, whilst also still seeking out and progressing new opportunities to improve health in the North East.
“We are at a crucial mid-way point in our period of accreditation, and I am confident in the ability of our partners and stakeholders to affect positive change for the population of Newcastle and the wider region, for now and for the longer term.”
NHIP unites five local partners:
- Academic Health Science Network for the North East and North Cumbria
- Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust
- Newcastle City Council
- Newcastle University
- Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
The Partners work collaboratively to translate world-class research and innovation into real world benefit, improving the population’s health and generating economic growth for the North East and North Cumbria region.
