PCAF Community launch event
Monday October 17, 2022
Join us at the PCAF Community launch event, Thursday 17th November
We are making plans to create a PCAF (Practitioner Academic Fellowship) community across our region! This will support and inform colleagues in the North East and North Cumbria who are thinking about applying for a PCAF, or are already working towards one.
To launch the community, we are hosting a special free event on Thursday 17th November, 12:00-1:30pm, via Teams.
We will be joined by Louise Hawkyard from NIHR*, who will give an overview of the PCAF scheme and application process. And we will hear from current and former PCAF-holders, for their insights and top tips.
Sarah Stephen, Speech and Language Therapist and RDI Doctoral Fellow, is a previous PCAF-holder at Newcastle Hospitals. She said:
“The PCAF community initiative sounds excellent. I personally really valued peer support whilst going through the fellowship. The PCAF was my first experience at navigating the significantly different clinical academic working style. Peer support offered the opportunity to discuss barriers and facilitators to academic practice, learn from others’ experiences and an informal space to discuss and reflect on research activity.”
This is set to be an event with really useful information, and an opportunity to begin building networks and peer support across the region.
This event is hosted by the Newcastle Hospitals NMAHP Research team, the NIHR Research Design Service North East North Cumbria and Newcastle Health Innovation Partners
*Louise has worked at the NIHR for three years across a broad range of programmes, including the Fellowships, ICA and IAT programmes. As Programme Manager for PCAF, she manages the scheme, including pre-application and post-award support to applicants and awardees.
